What Causes Itching On The Body After Taking Flagyl?

I had antibiotic induced c diff after taking Augmentin. While taking Flagyl, I began full body itching. I relapsed with c diff twice, and throughout treatment, the itching continued (two rounds of vancomyacin followed). I ve been off all medications now for 9 days and I m still itching all over. I get welts wherever I scratch. It s miserable.

Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hello,

This situation may be caused due to hypersensitivity to Flagyl. You could be intolerant to Flagyl and if your doctor confirms this by specific tests you should not use this treatment anymore. For the itching, you should take antihistamines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Gjustina Loloci, Allergist and Immunologist
