I am 57 year old female in generally good health. I take rx meds for depression & asthma. I have developed severe burning, itching on my left arm. It feels like pin pricks. The itch is maddening. Cortisone cream, Prednisone & Benadryl don t work. I am scratching my arm raw. Can you help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Itching on the left forearm mainly due to
1. contact dermatitis
2. eczema
3. psoriasis
4. itch bite
5. fungal infection.

As you are using corticosteroid so except fungal infection and itch bite all other condition can resolve so I think you have to apply one antifungal + antibiotics + steroid ointment. It's better to consult a Dermatologist first for diagnosis and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sourav Ganguly, General & Family Physician
