Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itching On Wrists, Genitals, Jawline And Back Of Knees?
I have been having daily symptoms and wondering if they are hormone related or stress related. Every evening around the same time of night I have been suffering from uncontrolled itching on my wrists, on the back of my knees, on my jaw line, and around the outer area around my genitals. I am a woman in my 40s.
Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites known as sarcoptes scabiei which borrow into the skin. The main symptom of scabies is intense itching which is worse at night. It can also cause skin rashes on areas where the mite have borrowed. Scabies like warm places like skin folds, between the fingers, under finger nails, wrists, back of the knees, jaw line, around genitalia or buttock or breast creases. It is usually spread through prolonged periods of skin to skin contact with an infected person or through sexual contact.
It is also possible for scabies to be passed on by sharing clothing, towels and bedding with someone who is infected. Permethrin 5% cream is usually recommended for scabies as the first treatment. Malathion lotion is used whenever Permethrin is ineffective. Scabies usually go away in 1-2 weeks but sometimes take a few months to go away.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
