What Causes Itching, Redness, And Burning Sensation At The Corner Of The Mouth?

I have itching, redness, and burning around corners of mouth. I have been putting Vaseline on it to soothe. It will go away for a couple months then come back. I also have vaginal itching at same time but wash my hand thoroughly after bathroom use. Was wondering if excessive thirst could cause this, I was wondering if urinating was causing the vaginal irritation. Not sex related.

Hi..
Welcome to HCM..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Angular Cheilitis leading to itching and redness at the corners of mouth and can occur due to a number of common causes Iron deficiency or Anemia, fungal infection, ill fitting dentures, loss of teeth leads to folds of skin at the mouth corners, systemic diseases like Coeliac disease etc..

In case if it is accompanied by Vaginal itching at the same time then both can be probably due to fungal infection as the oral and perioral and vaginal areas are easily susceptible to fungal infection..
Consult a Skin specialist or a Gynaecologist and get evaluated and a vaginal swab culture, urine culture and also swab culture from the corners of mouth can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..
As of now you can also apply a thick coat of Petroleum jelly over the corners to relieve the dryness and smoothen the area..
Do cool compresses..
A low potency steroid ointment along with antibiotic and antifungal composition can also be advised..Drink plenty of water..

In case if fungal infection is confirmed oral and topical antifungal medications like Fluconazole, Itraconazole etc can be advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
