What Causes Itching Sensation And Creamy White Discharge Despite Taking Plan B?

I took plan b this morning after having the condom break on us last night. After taking it I notices a creamy white discharge and my vagina got really itchy and irritated. It now looks swollen and red. I am sitting here with an ice pack on my vagina and I am wondering two things one is this a normal occurrence and two how can I get the itching to stop?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

White discharge and vaginal itching are in keeping with a yeast infection.

The swelling and redness are due to the inflammatory reaction to the infection.
It is not directly related to the use of emergency contraception but was likely brewing previously.

The use of topical or oral medications for yeast infections would be needed to stop the itching and other symptoms.
Eg clotrimazole, lotrimin, diflucan, monistat etc

I hope this helps
