What Causes Itching Sensation In The Vaginal Area?

I have an itchy vagina. I thought it might be the beginnings of a yeast infection so I bought 3 suppositories and pills. I am still taking one of the pills a day. Very little discharge, or odor, but skin irritation around the labia. I also experienced pain in the upper right portion of my vagina during intercourse. No longer menstruating since my hysterectomy when I was 48. I m now 54. Any idea what this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The common cause of itching vagina is a fungal infection diagnosed by vaginal SWB testing. The itching you have can be due to dried vagina due to fewer hormones following artificial menopause it can be a sign of early diabetes (excluded by blood glucose testing).

Please consult a gynecologist/an endocrinologist for specific advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
