What Causes Itchy And Painful Spots On Body After Playing On Grass?

Yesterday my 8 yo son was playing in the grass with friends. Now, more than 24 hours later, he came downstairs covered in spots & scratches. Could this be from the grass, & why is it just now showing up? He did shower tonight. He said they are itchy & painful. I gave him Tylenol & rubbed him with an anti histamine cream.

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. Sorry on the discomfort of your son, yes the itching is from the grass or bugs that were in the grass, this is a delayed hypersensitivity type IV reaction. It should go away on its own, the Tylenol might not really help but the antihistamine cream and maybe benadryl might cause the itching to stop which is probably the bothersome thing at the moment. The pain comes from all the scratching, I hope that this helps you out, good luck and thank you for your question.
