What Causes Itchy Bumps Behind The Ear

I have a small cluster of pimple like bumps behind my ears and hairline around the back of my head. They itch a little but mostly just annoying. I just noticed them this morning however I did just come back from up north 2 days ago. Could this be a weather change or something from the airline seat on the plane?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Itchy bumps behind the ears are commonly caused by seborrheic dermatitis, though medical conditions like eczema, contact dermatitis or psoriasis may cause similar symptoms. It can also be due to weather changes or some allergic reaction. Take care of your hygiene, take bath regularly and wash your clothes frequently in hot water. Do not share your toiletries with anyone. Take antihistamines at bed time to ease discomfort.

You can apply Ointment like hydrocortisone or Betnovate C in the area affected to reduce itchiness and discomfort. It commonly goes away with topical application of the ointment otherwise isotretinoin therapy is given under a dermatologist. Get clinically examined by a dermatologist if it is resistant and does not go away. Get treated at the earliest. Sometimes such symptoms are triggered by dandruff, shampoo your hair with Selsun shampoo regularly. Take care of your skin hygiene.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
