What Causes Itchy Feet While Recovering From Dengue?

My son is 14 years' old and is recovering from Dengue. He is not having any fever for the past 48 hours and his platelets are increasing (1.6 lakhs yesterday). Yesterday night he experienced extreme itching in his sole (feet) and could not sleep properly. Is there any effective medicine? Do I need to show to doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Itching of the soles can be a very annoying issue but the good thing about it is, it indicates signs of healing from dengue. Since the platelets have been increasing and there was no fever, there is nothing much to worry about and these symptoms shpuld subside soon. Keep the child well hydrated with plenty of water, coconut water and juices. In case the itching seems to be severe, moisturize the feet & soles well along with the above measures, gently massage and over the counter anti-allergic medication like benadryl can be given.
Hope he feels better soon.
