What Causes Itchy Hives On The Knee, Thighs And Ankles?

I have had bronchitis for 2 weeks and am almost completely over it now but have started getting some hives or a rash on my knees, inner thighs, back of my upper arms and ankles/heels. It s not terrible but very annoying and itchy at night. Is this normal or perhaps a reaction to the cough medicine syrup I was taking?

Hi,

Dermatologic conditions are difficult to evaluate without seeing them. Any infection, especially a viral one, sensitizes the immune system and this can lead to allergic reactions when there usually are not. Allergic reactions can be to medications. Ironically, most cough medicines contain anti-histamines that should work on hives. one can get allergic reactions to them though.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
