What Causes Itchy Rash Behind Left Knee And Thigh Despite Taking Benadryl?
I had a partial knee replacement on 3/10. All has been going well, but yesterday I started to develop a rash behind my left knee. The rash resembles heat rash and is very itchy, so I took Benadryl. The rash, however, is spreading up my thigh, onto my belly and buttocks. I do not have any swelling in my throat or tongue. I am unable to reach my doctor. How can I treat this?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy rash behind left knee and thigh despite taking Benadryl which seems to be due to bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue due to compromised immunity of your body and increased susceptibility of getting infected. If it is not healing with anti histamine then it must be due to infection . I would suggest you to start with oral antibiotic course of Amoxycillin 500 mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg for around 1 week. Apply topical antibacterial ointment neosporin or gentamicin on these rashes twice daily. You should take oral painkiller as well. Visit dermatologist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
