Hi Dear,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.
Thanks for your query . There can be two reasons for
allergic reaction after
root canal treatment.
- Firstly the allergic reaction can be due to material use in root canal like gutte percha and formaldehyde solution.
- Secondly it can be due to
local anesthesia used during the procedure . Benzocain present in local anesthesia can cause allergy, which last from one day to few days .
I would suggest you to :-
- Keep yourself hydrate by drinking lots of fluid .
- Take benadryl to relieve the symptoms .
- Take rest.
Consult your
dentist without any delay , because person can go into anaphylactic shock . Doctor will take history and may order
blood test for allergy to rule out other causes like spread of infection after the procedure.
If doctor find that allergy is due to material used in root canal then he/she may extract the tooth or use alternate material. Doctor may also prescribe antibiotics.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
