What Causes Itchy Rashes All Over The Body?

I have been taking Augmentin since Tuesday night; I was very itchy on Wednesday; however, I did not have a rash, just itchy all over. Tonight, I noticed red bumps on my stomach/side/back and continue to be itchy. I just took a Benedryl, thinking it may be an allergic reaction. Is this likely the case?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Augmentin is an antibiotic containing Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium..
Itching and rashes is due to allergic reaction to the antibiotic and it is a common presentation of antibiotic allergy..
You should stop taking the antibiotic and consult your doctor so that he can advise you other antibiotics..
Continue taking Benadryl and along with it apply a steroid ointment over the bumps to reduce itching..
You can also apply calamine lotion and do cool compresses to soothe the skin, reduce inflammation and itching..

Hope this helps..

Regards..

Hello, Thanks for the query.
It appears to be an allergic reaction to the drug(amoxy+clavulanic acid) that you are taking. Since no other drug or any allergic substance is being taken. It is better to stop that antibiotic and continue either Benadryl or Allegra for a a few days till allergy subsided. Please remember in future you should avoid taking either amoxycilline or clavulanic acid together or separately too. Because second or subsequent exposure can cause a more severe reaction. Thanks.
