What Causes Itchy Rashes On Ankles And Back Of Calves?

I have a red, itchy rash on both ankles and above my heels, splotches on backs of my calves, and a little bit on each wrist and elbow. I don't think I came into contact with any kind of plant irritant. I woke up with the itchiness on one ankle and then it developed on the other parts.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain red, itchy rash on both ankles and above my heels, splotches on backs of my calves, and a little bit on each wrist and elbow can be due to common causes like:

1.Allergic reaction which occurs when skin comes in contact with certain agents leading to contact dermatitis that your body is allergic to like skin cosmetics, detergents, soaps, fragrances, leather, latex, poison ivy etc..
2.Hair follicle infection or Folliculitis caused by Staphylococcus bacteria leading to formation of painful bumps over different parts of the body..
3.Another cause can be food allergy or side effect of medicines..

Consult a Dermatologist or an Allergist and get evaluated and he can investigate you for both allergies and infection..

As of now you can take anti allergics like benadryl for relieving itching and do cool compresses over bumps..

Once the cause is ruled out it will be treated accordingly..
- In case of Contact Dermatitis you will be advised anti allergics, topical steroid ointment application and also avoiding exposure to allergen when it is ruled out...
In recurring conditions Immunotherapy will be advised to you..
-In case of folliculitis antibiotics oral and topical and topical steroids can be advised along with anti allergics to control itching..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
