What Causes Itchy Rashes On Ears, Elbows, Knees And Sometimes On Torso?

my son is 11 and his ears get very red and itchy sometimes when he is playing outside. this usually includes a rash on his elbows and knees. sometimes even on his torso. It usually goes away after an hour or so. He drinks fluids and puts on sunscreen also.

Dermatologist 's  Response
hello,

It seems your son has a condition called as cholinergic urticaria which is defined as occurence of red, itchy and raised rash over your body due to physical activity leading to sweating causing increase in body temperature.

A similar condition called solar urticaria is the second diagnosis which i would like to consider. Here, patient develops similar lesion but mostly on sun exposed ares whenever patient goes out in sun

In both conditions, one need to take antihistamine to prevent this condition. in the latter, one must also consider strict sun protection as well.

Thanks
Dr Jyoti Gupta
