What Causes Itchy Rashes On The Body While Treating UTI?
89 year old . previous illness UTI hospitalized a week ago. doing better. a little weak. woke up today with an itchy rash over most of her body. gave her clariton 10 mgs today about 7am. this afternoon 2 Benadryl . began vomiting almost immediately.
It is possible that she may have another infection, this time of the gastrointestinal tract. This can present with vomiting. Viral illnesses can be associated with a rash, this is called viral exanthem. Infection of the gastrointestinal tract is the most common cause of acute vomiting and/or diarrhea though there are other causes as well.
In most cases, treatment can consist of fluid replacement which is given in very small aliquots to make sure that it is tolerated along with medication such as Pepto Bismol and Dramamine. These are both over the counter medication.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
