Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itchy Rashes On The Neck While On Generic Keppra?
I have been taking generic Keppra---about 3-4 months after starting have rash with intense itching neck, chest, back and arms---local PMD thought mainly dry skin----have been using Cetaphil moisturizer with little relief and taking Vistaril 25 at bedtime---hate to change drug as Levetiracetam has controlled all seizure activity.
Skin rashes are not uncommon with Keppra. And if it occurs after its use the general advice is that we stop the drug without delay until there we are sure that the rash is for some other reason.
So I would strongly suggest stopping. Consult a doctor in order to stop the drug. However, the drug should not be stopped suddenly rather tapper gradually.
Yes, this drug may work very well for seizures control and you may not like changing it. However, other better drugs are available which may be as effective as Keppra and may not cause you the rash.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
