Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itchy Red Blotches On Skin After Restarting Warfarin?
I have been on Warfarin for about two and a half years and I had to stop it for 7 days because of ingrown tonail surgery. When I started up again I had itching and red blotches on my skin. Is this something that will go away with time and how long can I expect this to last? I can t afford to switch to xarelto. The doctor told me to take aspirin to help this but I am allergic to aspirin, will acetaminophen work instead of aspirin?
As per my clinical experience, the red blotches on skin after starting warfarin indicates bleeding tendency. It is strongly recommended to stop further doses of warfarin tablets and consult your doc for immediate check up of: - Bleeding time - Clotting time - Activated partial thromboplastin time - Platelet counts for deciding further course of action.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
