What Causes Itchy Red Bumps In The Armpits And Upper Chest?

For past two weeks I have experienced red, itchy small bumps under armpits and across upper chest. First tried lotion. Then saw primary physician who recommended critical asteroid over counter topical. Five days application now and itch and redness persist. Male Caucasian, age 74, no known allergies. No recent changes in diet, bathing supplies, clothing apparel or other sources. Did have antibiotics for cataract surgery and colonoscopy but believe rash onset preceded both procedures. No fever, nausea, chills or other symptoms. Thanks in advance. Wayne

Hi,

You can try antiallergic like Allegra/ Benadryl/avil, oral administration. Locally you can apply anthical or calamine lotion on the rash.if simple antiallergic medication do not work. You can take steroid like Prednisone orally or dexamethasone cream for local application on rash for few days. You can take a shot of steroid like dexamethasone for 2-3 days if oral and local application of antiallergic and steroids do not work.

You can rule out other conditions apart from allergic rash by getting examined by a physician. Stop applying soap, DEO, perfume,etc for few days. Avoid common foods that cause allergy for few days like shellfish, peanut, soy and soy products, milk, gluten, egg. Some medication can also cause allergy. Wear breathable fabric preferably cotton clothes. Hope this works.
