Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itchy Red Dots On The Lower Legs While On Flagyl?
I had a diverticulitis attack and my doctor prescribed Flagyl 500 mg (3 / day) and Cipro 500 mg (2/day). On 4th day I noticed red dots on my lower legs, 5th day red dots increased and ichy. I wonder if the red dots were caused by Flagyl, I called the nurse triage this AM but kept on getting cut off so I decided to just cut down the dose of Flagyl. The red dots reduced. Should I phase out Flagyl and just take Cipro?
It could be an allergic eruption. As first line management, you can take antihistamines like Cetirizine for symptomatic relief. If lesion persists better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
