Hello, I recently had strep throat / tonsillitis infection that began last week. I went to the doctor last Friday morning and was diagnosed with tonsillitis and prescribed a 7 day course of Amoxicillin among other things. The sickness was hellish for a couple days but my throat began to feel much better starting around last Sunday evening. Over the next few days my symptoms subsided and by around midweek I felt almost completely better. I continued my antibiotics course until they were finished (which was beyond the point at which my symptoms had subsided.) However, today is my 2nd day off antibiotics and this morning I ve developed a rash on my face, neck, and back. My skin is red and puffy, there are small red dots on it, and it s itchy. I m aware that strep infections can cause a rash (and scarlet fever) but my research seems to reveal that the rash usually develops while one still has a fever/sore throat. My fever and sore throat are long gone but now I have a rash. A couple more important things to note: - My doctor never did a strep swab test. He only did a blood test. He never swabbed. His diagnosis on the paperwork read: tonsillitis. I m fairly certain it is strep throat, because I coworker got strep within a couple days after me. He also developed a rash, but it developed during his antibiotics course. I m fairly certain he never confirmed that it was strep throat or that the infection was bacterial. Nonetheless, the antibiotics seemed to work to heal my throat so I assume the infection was indeed bacterial. - I am in Vietnam. Medical practices are obviously a little different here than other countries. -I was told to take my antibiotics for 7 days but the pharmacy at the doctor s office only gave me 6 days worth of antibiotics. So I only took them for 6 days. -I called the doctor who treated me for tonsillitis. He doesn t speak excellent English. I tried to explain I had a rash after my throat healed, and asked if I should purchase another round of amoxicillin to treat the rash (in Vietnam I do not need a prescription to purchase more antibiotics). He only said come back to me in a few days when I m back in the office and I will check . I m reluctant to do this because I was unhappy with his service the first time (he didn t do a strep test and I probably spent a total of 6 minutes with him the whole time I was in the office), I think he just wants more of my money. Any recommendation or guess as to what is going on? Should I continue to take amoxicillin? Do I need to just suck it up and return to the doctor?
