What Causes Itchy Red Rashes On The Back And Neck?
65 year old male-excellent health. 99% sure I have shingles. Red bumps on back, new ones on neck, with accompanying sore neck and trapezius muscles. Seeing doctor tomorrow. Meanwhile, what can I do at home to relieve itching and burning. Treated yesterday with Neosporin and Metrogel 1% thinking it was a minor skin irrational. Also have been using hot pave for neck/trapezius pain. I don t want to do anything which is contra indicative before I see the doctor. Any thoughts? Thank you, Jack-Baton Rouge
Your symptoms could be due to eczematous rash, photosensitive rash. If it is painful then it is shingles. For diagnosis, detailed examination and skin biopsy (if necessary) is required. Meanwhile you can take following advises.
Other treatment you can take after diagnosis like application of steroid ointment like clobetasol propionate cream. Also, anti viral medication and topical anesthetic like benzocaine or lidocain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
