What Causes Itchy Scabs On The Lower Legs, Ankles And Wrists?

My friend has been troubled with white, thick plaque covered areas over his lower legs, ankles during his young years and now these areas are spreading to his wrists, ankles, shins and lower legs. These areas are thick, itching at times and white in color. When he was young his doctor gave him injections of steroids, he thinks. Any ideas of what this is and a treatment that would reduce to spread and itching. He was told that his nerves were causing him to have this problem.

Hello,

Since your friend has a history of thick plaques since he was young and is now spreading to the wrists, ankles, shins & lower legs.

He is suggested to see a dermatologist, get physically examined. Get blood & skin tests done. Such itchy scabs can be scabies, psoriasis or eczema, contact dermatitis. He should take a shower, pat dry his body & apply Ascabiol lotion in the parts affected, leave it for 30-40 minutes & take a shower again. He should repeat this after 15 days. He should get relieve.

If he is sexually active the dermatologist will ask him to take STD tests, to rule out STI, he will be treated with antibiotics/ antivirals, Fluconazole, etc depending upon the type of infection detected.

He can apply Hydrocortisone cream topically to get rid from itching. Take non-sedating antihistamines, Levocetrizine, one SOS, daily for 5-10 days.

Take care of your hygiene, don't share toiletries, avoid sex for a couple of days while you are being treated.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Take care.

Regards,
