What Causes Itchy Welts Along With Painful Swollen Joints?

My son woke up yesterday with itchy whelps all over his body. This morning he arose with swollen painful joints and he is now getting large knots on his shoulder and mouth. What is this and what should I give him? He is miserable and I have never seen anything like this before.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy welts along with painful swollen joints. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction , rheumatic fever , contact dermatitis , drug allergy or psoriatic arthritis . I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to welts , avoid food like nuts and sea food , take over the counter anti histamine like benadryl . Consult general practitioner for proper examination . Doctor may give adrenaline shot along with immunosuppressants , anti inflammatory and may refer you to orthopedic surgeon for psoriatic arthritis .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
