What Causes Joint And Muscle Pain In The Neck, Shoulders And Arms?

i have pain in my joints and muscles all over: my neck, shoulders fore arms, hands, knees, thighs. I can hardly lift anything without pain. I went to my GP and had two blood tests done = all positive. I am taking physical therapy once a week at my gym. I have controlled my high blood pressure with medication and have an enlarged prostate. My doctor ruled out Lyme disease. I am a bit overweight, but work out every day and do not smoke. I have a little wine on the weekends. I am taking Glucosemine too.

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I see a lot of patients with similar complaints. Most common causes are the following:
1) rheumatoid arthritis
2) arthritis secondary to urinary tract infections
3) osteoarthritis
4) gouty arthritis.

As you had mentioned that your physician ordered a few tests. Certainly, in order to arrive at the right diagnosis, blood investigations are essential.
1) serum RA (rheumatoid factor)
2) serum uric acid levels
3) erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
4) C-reactive protein.

Appropriate evaluation of your condition is essential as the treatment is different each disease. Kindly discuss the above details with your general practitioner. Until then you can go for pain-relieving medication like ibuprofen and aceclofenac if you have a normal kidney function. If you have any kidney compromise, acetaminophen and codons combination is the best. You can upload the test results as I’m always here to promptly assist you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi.m,
