Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Joint Pain In Hip Along With Spasms In Hamstring?
About five weeks ago I experienced a sudden onset of joint pain in my left hip and left ankle. This also seemed to be the cause of muscle spasms in my hamstring and calf. My family practice doctor diagnosed it as degenerative arthoritis. He prescribed Soma for the spasms but after two weeks there was no improvement. He then prescribed Gabapentin and after approximately 18 days there is still no improvement. The joint and muscle pain has kept me practically immobile. Do you have any suggestions as to what my next course of action should be. Thank you.
Hi I have gone through your history and.It seems you are having these pains for the first time. It will help to know if you have back pains or have you undergone treatment for cancer or had any form of surgeries.I assume Xrays of these joints would have revealed the arthritis and if not these should be done. Also blood tests showing bone profile, ESR, CRP. A bone scan will help in seeing if infection is a cause.if oral medications have no effect and the pain is intolerable then you have to be hospitalised with stronger pain medications while the investigations are going on.
