Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Joints Pain Inspite Of Being On Bystolic For 5 Years?
I have been taking bystolic for @ 5 years. 5 mg.lateky I have been exeriencing lots of joint pain, especially going down stairs. My prescription ran out week ago and the pain has diminished greatly. I also feel less exhausted. I have an appt next week. Am I safe not to take anything until I meet with my family Dr.?
Bystolic is a drug under the group called beta blockers primarily used for reducing blood pressure. Skipping the drug is not at all advisable as raised blood pressure can cause lot of complications. I would advise you to resume your medication as early as possible. Do not try to catch up the missed dose and you should resume the dose which you were taking earlier.
The cause of joint pains need to be found out. The drug may have joint pains as the side effect in some patients however I would advise you to get the other causes of joint pains like osteoarthritis etc., ruled out first and then by the rule of exclusion you can consider bystolic as the cause for your joint pain. If the drug appears to be the cause of joint pains then you can ask the treating doctor to change your drug to that of some other group of anti-hypertensives.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
