What Causes Knee Pain Radiating Towards Foot Long After Knee Replacement Surgery?

Hello, I had a knee replacement 4.5 years ago. In the past year or two I have sporadic episodes where pain flares up from the knee down to the foot, usually in the night. It s actually more painful when I let up my foot than when I put weight on it. A small varicose pocket on the shin is excruciating to touch during a flare-up. Pain will dissipate in anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours if treated with icing and ibuprofen. I ve seen two orthopedists including the doc who did my replacement with no help from them as to the cause. Could it be gout?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear welcome to HealthcareMagic
Presenting a history of knee pain radiating to your foot after a previous knee replacement surgery i am suggesting that you have developed an osteoarthritis(inflammation of the joint)

In view of this please do an x-ray of the knee and see your physician with the result for expert treatment

Meanwhile continue with your cing and ibuprofen and add tablet cerebrex lyrica to experience drastic improvement

Regarding your small painful varicose veins I am very sure it is not related to the knee pain rather I am suggesting a possibility of peripheral vascular disease which will require clinical assessment by a emergency physician

Concerning Gout is cause by hyperuricemia(abnormal uric acid in the blood) I am not sure it is the cause however this can be confirmed by doing a serum uric acid level

I hope this helps Regards
