What Causes Knee Pain While Suffering From Cough And Runny Nose?

my 8 year old son had the croup a few weeks back. his cough and runny nose has come and gone but still lingers. Now his knees are hurting so bad he cannot walk much. He is sleeping so much for the past couple days. I kept him home from school today and he has a doctor apt at 6 tonight . Any thoughts? maybe just run down from being so sick and possibly growing pains?
