What Causes Lack Of Bowel Movement With History Of Heart Stroke?
hello doc, my grandma is 92 years old and is bed ridden suffering from heart problem wherin her heart is working 40% and had a heart stroke in April this year. She has been suffering from bowel movement and not done in last seven days.Kindly explain the reason and the therapy caujse her diet is very less on fibres and fruits.
Hi, Welcome to the HCM Due to aging ,the intestinal wall muscle contractions tend to become weak, other factors could be less fibre in diet and poor nutrition .Even bed ridden for prolonged time can cause lack of bowl movement. Since it has been 7 days with out passing stool, she may need enema first, and after that syp lactulose could help.Increase fibre in diet. I would also sugget ,get checked by a doctor in person to check out sphincter reflex and discuss furher. Regards,Dr.Maheshwari
