Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am needing to focus and seem to have scattered my thoughts. My son was previously on Adderall and Vyvanse. I seem to be sharing the same ADHD symptoms that he has. Would I benefit? I am not able to ask a doctor for a prescription. I feel embarrassed, but am willing to try and see what the trouble is. Recently divorced and free from an extremely abusive marriage and while out in the workforce I need to really focus. Thank you.
However, I would not think of ADHD as a cause of your lack of focus and concentration.
You seem to be going through a lot of family problems. Family is an integral part of a person's support system. Support systems play a major role a person's mental well-being. You seem to be having an acute depressive episode. Lack of concentration, scattered thoughts, decreased sleep or increased sleep, lack of appetite are all symptoms of depression. It is a normal reaction of the human brain and is extremely common, especially when support systems destabilise.
I would advise you to be patient as most depressive symptoms in otherwise mentally healthy people, resolve in about 4-8 weeks. However, if you have suffered from depression before or have a family history, it may last longer. In that case, I would advise you seek help either in the form of supportive friends or family or either medically in the form of counselling or cognitive behavioral therapy.
Hope this helps. Wishing you good health.
Regards, Dr Geeta
