My son has intense trouble waking up and functioning in the morning. Has trouble getting to school. no motivation until afternoon or evening, then is fine. But cant seem to function in the morning at all. He says he sleeps fine... does not wake up once he is asleep.

dear friend
your son is not getting enough sleep what time does he go to sleep, please monitor that,
also if he sleeps late he will not want to getup early so off to bed in time for a good 8 hr sleep is recommended,
if his lack of motivation is only for going to school you will need to check out for his activities in school bullies and incomplete assignments are most common culprits.
please ensure both and bring about sleep discipline I suppose things will improve
