Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Lack Of Sleep Along With Pain And Stiff Neck?
Mother has possible insomnia. Pain and stiff neck may also be an issue for her lack of sleep. But, she never has a decent sleep pattern and wakes up several times a night due to things like heat flashes, etc. what can she do to find out the real cause of her lack of sleep?
I understand your concern for your mother. You have not mentioned the age of your mother. I consider her to be in her fifties. Inability to initiate sleep and waking up several times in night might be due to some painful disease or depression or both. My advice is you get her CT scan of Cervical Spine done. There may be some kind vertebral disc damage. Accordingly a proper neck rest bandage can be used under consultation of an Orthopedic doctor. If the pain is not the cause, this can be due to depression. Consult a Psychiatrist for this, he will illicit the causes for her insomnia and treat her accordingly. Meanwhile talk to her, comfort her and help her to develop proper sleep schedule. Give Calcium supplement tablet once daily for 30 days. Hope this will help you.
