What Causes Lack Of Thirst Post Withdrawal From Anti Depressants?
Several weeks ago I discontinued my anti-depressant medication. Since stopping I have noticed a lack of thirst. I typically drink about 2 liters of water a day, I d wake up thirsty. I know I need to drink water, but I m not thirsty. This is very unusual for me.
Side effects of antidepressants commonly causes dry mouth and thirst. Since you are no longer on antidepressants you may feel lack of thirst but you should keep yourself well hydrated. Take fluids and water based beverages, you can take juices or fruit flavored fluids for a change.
Lack of thirst is not good, it may be indicative of liver problems (cirrhosis), injuries, cancer, stroke etc. You are suggested to get a general health check up done, get the required blood, urinalysis and imaging tests done to detect the symptoms causing lack of thirst.
Your treatment will depend on the the pathology detected and your clinical condition.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
