What Causes Large Clot And Blood At Back Of Throat?

I was at a school concert yesterday and my mouth quickly filled with blood from the back of my throat. It consisted of a large clot and blood. I couldn t get up from where I was quickly so I swallowed it. A minute later there was more, but much less. Would this be a vein bursting? I am a 53-year-old female.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Sudden appearance of clot on back of throat must be related to various possibilities such as:
- Clotting disorder
- Uncontrolled inflammation
- Erosion or injury to part of back of throat
- Others

However, a detailed physical examination with an expert ENT specialist is matter of concern for the final diagnosis and cure accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
