Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 17 years old and was diagnosed with a hydrocele approximately 3 years ago. His Doctor said that surgery is the best option but he can wait have the surgery when he feels it is necessary. He is a very active 17 year old plays baseball almost year round and football. Does not have much "down time" to recover and as of yet hasn't wanted to give up sports to take the time/recovery needed. That being said the hydrocele has become a little larger and he feels as though it is "getting in the way" example: wearing a cup for baseball and running. I have two questions first of all I have been researching aspirating the hydrocele as a sort of temporary fix until football season is over in November and then have the operation. Is that a reasonable option ? I am aware that the hydrocele is more liking to return and surgery is a more permanent option . Second question he has had 2 ultrasounds that have show striation???? Not sure what that means nor does his Urologist, he states this is very rare for a 17 year old and has referred him to a pediatric Urologist in Boston. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
hello, i can understand your concern. i would suggest you to go for a surgery for hydrocele after which there will not be a recurrence. aspiration is usually not advised these dsys. as for the striations in the ultrasound a biopsy would be advised to rule out malignancy.this is quite rare in a 17 year old. kindly consult a pediatric urologist as advised earlier for this condition. thanks for choosing HCM
