What Causes Laryngitis Despite Taking Prednisolone?

Hallo Doctor, I am a professional singer and have a very important concert tomorrow. I started getting a serious case of laryngitus last night and today can not talk at all, only air comes out and the occasional squeak. A ETN doctor gave me (as a one off emergency solution) 20 mg of prednisolon and told me to take 8 (yes, 8, meaning 160mg) today and again 8 tomorrow morning. Now, looking through the internet, it seems excessive... here people talk about 20mg being enough, let alone 160mg. What should I expect?

A single or double large dose 160mg*2 might not get you long term effects. ENT surgeon might have preferred the higher dose because of the severity of laryngitis and also because of your concert. The doctor might have given the higher dose because of these two reasons.
Dictum for steroids goes like this "A single high dose steroid helps to tide over immediate crisis in an individual can create more benefits than harm in selected patients"
Here selected patients are acute seriously ill patients and for you it's the laryngitis.
