What Causes Left Side Swelling In Face And Difficulty In Opening Mouth?

I recently had all four of my wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday, the 21st. The only problem I have is the left side of my face is swollen more and makes it hard to open my mouth; therefore I haven't eaten since the day before the surgery..with the exception of Ice cream here and there. What could possibly help me get the swelling down fully? What types of food could make it easier?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern....

As per your complain it is already two weeks passed and by now if it would be inflammatory swelling it should have gone down considerably and the discomfort in opening mouth and chewing must have reduced but in case if you still have difficulty in opening mouth as well as the face is so much swollen it is a sign of infection in the extraction site and you should consult your dentist and get evaluated ..

In case of infection an antibiotic regimen has to be taken like Augmentin 625 mg thrice a day for 10 days, Pantoprazole 40mg once in morning empty stomach and if there is pain Ibuprofen 400mg thrice a day has to be taken..
In case if there is persisting inflammation in the extraction site and not infection then you might be advised a steroid injection like Dexona and oral intake of steroids to reduce inflammation..
Cold packs shall be done to reduce inflammation..
As of now you should do warm saline gargles..
You should take soft foods and cool foods avoid hard and hot foods..
Take semi solid foods but do not stay hungry as it may lead to under nourishment..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
