What Causes Left Sided Abdominal Pain And Urethral Irritation?

I had left abdominal pain and went to the hospital. They checked my blood, urine and did an ultrasound. They couldn t find the reason for my pain. They did a CT Scan and used Iodine Contrast. Since then I have had issues with my urine. Especially a constant irritation in my urethra. Could it be from the Contrast?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The dye used for intravenous pyelogram or Ct scan is excreted through kidney and the urinary irritation is secondary to possible urethritis or cystitis issue most likely. My guidelines at present:
- Plenty of liquids to flush out the contrast from the system
- Urinary alkaliser as potassium citrate or potchlor
- Citrus fruits with vitamin C content
- Analgesic as diclofenac or else as per the recommendation of your urologist and creatinine report
- Avoid masturbation or sexual intercourse if active

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
