What Causes Left Sided Abdominal Pain Post Insertion Of IUD?

I have the Mirena IUD and have had it for a few years. I lost my insurance a couple years ago and haven't been able to go get it check like I am suppose to. I am having pains in my left side and decided to check for the string. I checked twice and I could not feel it. What do I do? Please help me...
