What Causes Left Sided Abdominal Pain?

I i assignable get an extremely sharp pain in my very low left abdomen. It is so low it is actually right next to my hip bone, whenever I do anything sudden (more times than not its because I have coughed). Could please tell me what this could be as I am getting more concerned because it s becoming more frequent. Thank you.
