What Causes Left-sided Back Pain For A 44 Year Old Male?

44 year old male here. For the last couple of weeks I have had a pain in my back. Left side below shoulder. Feels like what a pinched nerved might feel like. Pain is annoying and is worse after sitting. It doesn t seem to hurt when I wake up or lay down for a while. Your thoughts?

Hi
Hope this message finds you in good health.
I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.
I generally see many cases like this at my clinic.I give them rest,analgesics,anti-inflammatory tablets and hot fomentation. Then i get an xray and if necessary an mri done to find out the extent of injury.
In your case, there are 3 possibilities-

POSSIBILITY 1. Soft tissue swelling- there may be no bony involvement, only the soft tissues around the region might be inflammed causing the pain.

POSSIBILITY 2. fibromyositis- some fibrous tissue and musles in the region might be entangled due to some sort of strain.

POSSIBILITY 3.prolapsed inter vertebral disc in the neck-this causes a nerve to get compressed in the neck region causing the pain to radiate in the shoulder region.
A xray and an mri of the part and neck region would definitely confirm the diagnosis

all have a good prognosis and you should eventually get back to normal in coming few days.
traction, exercises, physio and if necessary a single shot of steroid injection in that region may help.Nothing to worry about.
I hope your question has been answered.
If you have any follow-up queries, feel free to consult me anytime.
Thanks,Take care,God bless.
