What Causes Left-sided Pain At The Base Of The Skull?
Im having some pains in the back bottom left of my head, I haven t had an impact there in 4 months but I do play rugby, its not constant just a sharp pain every day or 2 thats lasts a couple of seconds. I do feel under a bit of stress right now. Nothing to worry about or just wear and tear? ma
It is possible that the pain is nerve related pain. That type of pain tends to occur intermittently, lasting a short period of time each episode. Nerve related pain is called neuralgia. It is usually due to neuropathy which is abnormal function of the nerves. It can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes.
One common cause is trauma and with the history of contact sports this is likely. You may want to consider imaging to try and determine if this is the cases, this means a CT or MRI. Other causes are: diabetes, kidney or liver disease, low folate or low vitamin b12, thyroid disease, abnormal levels of vitamin b6, exposure to toxins, infections such as shingles, side effect of medication.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
