What Causes Left-sided Painful Swelling Around The Hip Post Hip Replacement Surgery?

had left hip replacement surgery little over 2 years ago in November, am 52 years old , good health yet a bit overweight but have had no problems with it until now. Started top feel a bit sore beginning of last week, gotten progressively worse to the point that I can hardly walk on it now, also swollen and throbbing in the area of my surgery. Going to go to see my orthopedic doctor on Monday, yet wondering if I should go to emergency now.

Hello,

As after 2 years of surgery, it was fine but sudden swelling and throbbing pain indicate something wrong in the replacement joint.

It may be a blood clot or some infection also. as per my advice, you should get to the ER and have diagnosed. Till Monday it may worsen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
