What Causes Left-sided Swelling And Numbness In The Knee After An Injury?
I tripped, fell, came down very hard on left knee. This knee has history, successful minibus repair in 2009. Now left knee is very swollen, heavy bruising, feels like something moving around inside, funny numbness with sensitivity on outer skin, feels like nerve jumping. I can straighten my leg and bear weight. Fairly constant discomfort. Could I have broken my knee cap or possibly torn the other side of my miniscus? Can t get comfortable, but seeing doctor on Friday
With a history of surgical repair previously if you accidentally injured the same part of the body especially the joints then possibility of fracture or tendon injury cannot be denied, As its swollen and tender but movements are possible along with discomfort, it should be examined by an orthopedician.
If required he might ask you to get an x-ray of knee joint done to see if any internal structure is damaged during this. So consult your doctor soon and follow his advice on management of the pain and swelling. Temporarily having ibuprofen till you go to see the doctor will help in decreasing the pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
