What Causes Leg And Foot Numbness In A Patient With Lumbar Spondylolisthesis?
hI ihave Lumbar Spondylolisthesis - I m waiting to get into the Dr . I can not walk more than about 20 feet before my legs & feet fall asleep and go numb if I sit down for a few minutes it goes away and the whole process starts again . is there anything I can do in the mean time - I am already taing tylenol & iburophen all day long?
You have a past history of having a lumbar spondylolisthesis. Now you are experiencing the complications of the same. Chronic pain in the legs or back, tingling and weakness in the legs, feet getting numb are complications of spondylolisthesis. You are suggested to get physically examined by a GP. Get an X-ray (lower spine) done to detect bone fractures or vertebrae is out of place.
Your treating doctor may ask you to do a CT for more detailed study on nerve compression. Treatment will include physical therapy, wearing a back brace, pain reducing medicines, Naproxen, etc., and epidural steroid injections. Most people respond well to conservative treatment but if it doesn't seem to work your treating doctor may recommend surgical treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
