General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Paul,

I understand your concern.

The use of statins is known to be associated with the side effects you are facing now: leg cramps, feeling of being sick, etc.

In such cases, as you have tried to change statins, they are still persisting, then, we ask the patients to stop using statins.
Furthermore, the use of niacin and red yeast rice is helping alot in stabilizing your cholesterol numbers. Thus, it should be ok to stop statins.

To reduce the side effects, I usually prescribe Ubiquinol Qu10 to my patients which has been shown effective. I wish it will be the same effective for you.

All the best.
