Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have leg muscle spasms that occur when I am asleep and lying in bed. Excruciating. Sometime they are in either leg or calf or radiate from the hip to the toes ( that curl up) Must stand up and apply heating pad and can't lay back down until the heating pad has done the job. Sometimes fixes problem and sometime the pain and spasms return and must get up again. Cannot get a full night's sleep. Also affected by cold air in room - On occasion has happened when driving and have had to pull over to side of road until toe and feet stopped curling and had to get out of the car and stand up.
What kind of doctor do I need to see ? Have been to Cardio, Vascular and Pain Mgt.
Hello dear. I can understand your problem. these are muscle cramps which most commonly occur due to fatigue. these are mostly seen in those who tend to walk excessively and have standing jobs. these are precipitated by cold and occur mostly in night time or at the time when the legs are at rest (sleeping, sitting etc). The remedy for this can be to give your calf muscles rest in between your work. take Multivitamin and calcium supplements and vitamin deficiency can calcium deficiency can be the causes as well. You can consult a neurologist to rule out a nerve disorder. Hope this helps. Thanks
