i have experienced swelling at the rear of my leg above the ankle its quite painful and only appeared overnight could it be a blood clot as i have never had this before? should i have it checked or wait another day and see if the swelling goes down? many thanks william
Sudden onset of pain in the leg associated with swelling should be assessed to rule out a clot, as you mentioned. This should be especially done if there is a history that may increase the risk of a clot occurring eg prolonged travel, immobilization, trauma, venous disease, obesity
A doppler ultrasound would be needed to look at this blood vessels.
I hope this helps
