Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Leg Weakness And Blurred Vision After Taking Amiodarone?
My mother is 83 years old and is being treated for Afib. After being hospitalized 6 weeks ago, she was started on Xarelto and Amiodarone. She started having R leg weakness and symptoms progressively got worse including blurred vision, uncontrolled R and L leg tremors, more regular episodes on a daily basis and feeling very tired and emotional afterwards. Her doctor reduced the Amiodarone to every other day and two days ago had her stop the medication altogether. She will be seen by an Internist soon for a possible neurological disorder, but her symptoms persist and she s very worried. Do you believe the medication is the problem?
Based on the history your mother seems to have developed some of the side effects of amiodarone. These effects may continue for weeks or months after stopping taking amiodarone. However, the possibility of a neurological condition must be ruled out.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
